Early retirement

An early old-age pension is available at 60 with 35 years of pension service, with a reduction for every month claimed early. Unlike some neighbouring systems, that reduction in Croatia is not permanent for life.

Conditions

An early old-age pension is available at 60 years with 35 godina of pension service (čl. 40 ZOMO). Both conditions must hold at once; the service requirement here is longer than for an ordinary pension, where 15 godina is enough.

The reduction — and why it is not permanent

For each month claimed before the statutory age, the initial factor under čl. 83(3) is reduced by 0,2 %. Unlike some neighbouring systems, this reduction in Croatia is not permanent: under čl. 83(9) ZOMO, HZMO re-sets the pension ex officio, without this reduction, from the first day of the month after the claimant turns 70.

No provision was found stating a ceiling on the total reduction — čl. 83 states only the monthly rate.
